I am writing this letter as a personal reference for Dave Aycock. As a former sales manager with the Haselwood Auto Group I worked directly with Dave as my immediate supervisor and GM of our store. I have worked with a few general managers in the past 25 years and the all have very different styles that range from working more behind the scene to being in the forefront. Dave is the single most forefront GM I have ever had the pleasure to work with. The car business is a very unique and demanding field to work in. It tends to attract A type personalities some of whom are a bit in the lost soul category, and others are in the business for financial opportunity. From the sales perspective of the operation, it is the GM’s responsibility to grow the sales team into an adhesive and successful group in an ever demanding environment. Dave has proven from day by day, week by week and year after year that he was always up to the challenge.
Dave Aycock was the most effective and passionate GM I have worked with.
Listed below are some of the reasons I feel this way.
- Leadership Quality
You always knew who was in charge. Dave is clear when giving direction and will be following up on directions given. I appreciated the fact that when the worst of the worst customers or situations happened, Dave did not seek shelter behind his managers but would literally step in front of them to to handle these situations. This is something I did not experience in the past with others GM’s or GSM’s. Dave also is a huge fan of holding people accountable to their goals. A good leader will always circle back around to inspect what they expect and that was something you could count on always.
- Teaching Skill
When teaching, Dave would tell you what he was going to teach you as well as why he was teaching this to you, then teach the subject matter to you with a recap of what you were just taught. I am sure that sounds funny to read but I personally found this to be very effective and I am sure quite necessary with the group in our environment.
This is a big word so I will condense my definition concerning Dave. When someone is dedicated they need to be “All In” without distraction or hesitation to the cause. If you saw Dave from across to showroom you would see and feel the dedication to the store. Spending countless hours working with Dave I have seen him work while very ill, balance very difficult family situations while keeping his pace for the store. I also saw that he was extremely dedicated to his friends and especially dedicated to his family.
As we all know, things happen in life that can have an adverse effect on our lives. I witnessed Dave go out of his way to provide support in several different ways to people who worked under his supervision. Dave has given me guidance when I thought I had seen the end of the path and all options had been exhausted, only to find out that I was almost there and broke through to achieving my goals. Some were small and others were effecting my life in a much larger scale. I will say that some of Dave’s magic in this arena is due to surrounding himself with first class friends that are in different fields and can offer assistance within their own professions.
- God Given Talent
Personally, I have always had to work a little harder than most to achieve success. I struggle with math, spelling and writing. I was always amazed to watch Dave work, he is very professional well spoken and articulate. I would also have to say Dave is a problem solvers problem solver.
I hope you have found this to be helpful. I am guessing that if you are reading this, you are deciding if you want to invest your time and trust into Dave Aycock.
I can tell you from my experience that you have likely never met a man of his caliber in the past. I would not hesitate to trust that any task he is given will be accomplished with unparalleled focus.
If there are any questions that you feel would be best answered directly, please feel free to give me a call. Dave has my phone number.
