In 2015, it is expected that $187 billion will be spent on advertising in the U.S., according to the results of a Strategy Analytics report highlighted on TechCrunch. The fastest growing segment, with an increase of 13% this year, is digital advertising, making up almost 30% of the total amount or $52.8 billion. Almost half (45%) of this amount will be spent on search sites, 31% on social media sites, 29% on video and 20% on mobile advertising.
It’s clear that online advertising has become a standard and top priority for businesses but is it the best option, especially when looking to make an impact in their local market? According to Mark Bakken of Big Web Machine, the answer is no. “Surveys have shown that less than 10% of consumers believe the claims made in advertisements, 70-80% of users never click on paid ads, but 90% are influenced by online reviews,” he says.
